Course-specific competence: - knows the difference between warm and cold rolled steel, knows normal steel profile types (1) and their appropriate scope of usage (3)
- knows the life cycle for steel and can explain the most common corrosion and fire guard methods (1)
- can check the cross section class for a beam and dimension the beam with elasticity theory in cross section classes 1, 2 and 3 (1). Knows when profiles can be calculated with the plasticity theory and can dimension beams and columns with the appropriate theory (3)
- can check if there is a possibility for lateral buckling in a beam (1) and calculate if the bracing is enough (3)
- can dimension bolted joints in shear (3) and welded joints in tension and shear with the simplified method
- knows what is essential in steel drawings and can read typical drawings (element, plane section, assembly drawings and details). Can make necessary steel drawings for a small steel construction (3)
