Course-specific competence: - knows the basics in elasticity (1) and plasticity (3) theory
- knows different types of stresses, symbols, concepts and definitions that are necessary in strength calculations
- can take out the stress distribution in a cross section subjected to axial force and bending moment (1). Masters the stress distribution in cross sections with two bending moments in different directions (3) and can optimize the cross section in accordance to the stress distribution in the cross section (5)
- can calculate the stress distribution for simple cross sections (1) and for combined sections (3)
- can calculate the shear capacity for rectangular cross sections (1), normal steel profiles (3) and for combined profiles (5)
- can calculate the buckling capacity for standard cross sections subjected for axial force (1) and combined axial force and bending moment (3)
- understands the meaning of prime stresses (3) and can determine these (5)
- understands (1) and can calculate (3) elongations and deformations
- understands the meaning of torque stiffness centre (3) and can calculate torque capacity for simple cross sections (5)
- understands what plastic bending resistance is (1) and can calculate the position of the plastic neutral axis. Can calculate plastic bending resistances for combined cross-sections (3)
