Degree Programme in Music

Jakobstad campus (Pietarsaari in Finnish)

Nomination deadline 15 april and application deadline for spring semester is November 1st.The programme starts on January 11th 2027, and most likely ends on May 8th 2027. 

The courses are mainly in Swedish, but the materials and supervision can be given in

English.

  • Notio 1.3, 3 ECTS
    The student:
    -started to master their craft, practically and theoretically, in rhythm, time signatures, ear training, memorising, coordination and transcription.

    - has an understanding of questions of sustainability in the field of music and culture.

  • Popular music history, 3 ECTS
    The student
    - is familiar with the history and aesthetics of popular music.
    - is familiar with its tradition and repertoire, and is able to make use of it in their own studies and in their musical activity.

    Digital Music Production, 5 ECTS

    Students

    - master the technology of digital music production tools including digital audio workstations (DAWs), virtual instruments, audio editing programs and effects plug-ins

    - be able to use digital tools to create musical arrangements and compositions

    - be able to create and edit MIDI tracks, arrange and orchestrate virtual instruments and soundtracks, and explore different musical forms and ideas to create dynamic and interesting musical works.

    Electronic music, 3 ECTS

    The student

    - is familiar with electronic music.

    - Is able to independently and innovatively use electronic equipment in a musical or cross-artistic context.

    Conducting and Rehearsal Techniques, 3 ECTS
    The student

    - has basic skills in conducting and rehearsing music material for different ensemble settings.

    - has an insight into different conducting techniques

    - has an understanding of questions of sustainability in the field of music and culture.

    Editing, mixing & mastering, 4 ECTS
    The Student

    - has knowledge of mixing and mastering audio and editing sound files , working in a music studio environment.

    - has an understanding of questions of sustainability in the field of music and culture.

    Profile Studies , 3 ECTS

    The student

    - has insight into how build their own unique profile within the music business.

    - has an understanding of questions of sustainability in the field of music and culture.

    Notio 3.2, 3 ECTS
    The student

    - is able to work with arrangement and/or composition at a level that corresponds to the professional demands within their own area of focus

    - has an understanding of questions of sustainability in the field of music and culture.
