The basics of general genetics and plant breeding Various plant breeding methods, including genetic modification (GM / GMO) Variety development and variety experiments Seed production, sorting and trading in Finland Seed control and monitoring in Finland The course is based on several of the global sustainability goals, mainly the goals of Responsible consumption and production and Life on land
Goal
The student - knows the historical development of plant breeding - understands the genetic bases of plant breeding and knows plant breeding methods - knows plant varieties on the market and can choose varieties based on plant cultivation and market conditions - knows the conditions and regulations for seed cultivation and trade in Finland and within the EU

Assessment:
Written exam Project work with written reports (Novias manual) and oral presentation Participation at farm trips/compensation if student is absent
