Tiina Saaresranta

I work as project manager and special advisor in the rural policy network KERÄ -for sustainable rural areas and a just transition (2024-2027).

Within the KERÄ network, my goal is to advance knowledge and actions related to sustainable development through societal structures - locally, regionally, and in collaboration with governmental institutions.

I have worked as a coordinator in several rural and archipelago development projects, where we have for example co-developed tools and operational models to support sustainability efforts in local communities, strengthened the local cultural identity of children and youth, and enhanced the vitality of local communities. Since 2016, I have also held various roles in community-led rural development (Leader) in both the archipelago and rural areas.

I have extensive experience working with human rights based development, both from a research perspective and through international development cooperation. I participated

for example in the Academy of Finland’s research project “Integrating Human Rights and Development: Strategies, Impact and Emerging Issues 2010–2013,” as well as in a research project with Bolivia’s Ministry of Development Planning concerning the development paradigm “vivir bien.” I have worked many years with indigenous people’s rights and development issues in Latin America.
