Jukka Häkkinen
Jukka Häkkinen leads Novia’s Human Factors team, addressing human-technology interaction within complex sociotechnical systems. He earned his PhD in vision science from the University of Helsinki in 2007, where he investigated the mechanisms of human stereoscopic vision. Since then he has held R&D and academic positions at Nokia Research Center, Aalto University and the University of Helsinki, conducting human factors research across a wide range of technologies and application domains.
Current projects
Jukka is investigating the cognitive and social processes involved in navigation and piloting, with a particular focus on remote pilotage and the shift from on-board to shore-based operations.
Areas of expertise
- Human-technology interaction and human factors
- Applied vision science and visual ergonomics
- Mixed methods research
- Eye-tracking research
- User‑centered design
- Task analysis
Research interests
Jukka’s research spans perception, decision-making and behavior in work environments with technology. He is interested in how situational awareness emerges in distributed crews and how systems can be designed to support safe, efficient performance.
