FutureNurses – Identifying the risk of dropping out of nursing studies and supporting the continuation of studies

About the project

The aim of the study is to obtain up-to-date, evidence-based information on the risks of dropping out of nursing studies, risk assessment, factors associated with the risk of dropout, and factors that can reduce the risk of dropout and thus improve the availability of healthcare workers. The research project consists of three phases: 1) a systematic literature review of tools used to identify the risk of nursing students dropping out of their studies, 2) an interview study with nursing students who have dropped out of their studies or are considering dropping out of their studies, as well as nursing teachers, study counsellors and practical training supervisors, and 3) a national survey of nursing students who have dropped out and active students.

Project goal

The purpose of this research project is to 1) describe the risk factors for dropping out of nursing studies, 2) identify and evaluate the assessment methods used to identify the risk of dropping out of nursing studies, 3) to identify factors associated with nursing students dropping out of their studies and the risk of doing so (both temporary and permanent), and 4) to identify factors that support nursing students in continuing their studies and that can reduce the risk of dropping out.
