DesignMod

About the project

The DesignMod - sustainable modular production environment project aims to develop a sustainable modular production environment that responds to the challenges of the circular economy and business operations. The project covers production planning, business development and sustainable product development, which provides significant benefits to companies and enables new business models.

The project is being implemented as a group project in which several actors, including Muotoilukeskus Muova/VAMK, Novia and Centria, are combining their expertise and resources.

Project goal

The main objectives of the project are:

Development of new design principles: Create methods for designing and manufacturing products according to circular economy principles and modularity. The goal is for the products to be long-lasting, easier to repair, update and recycle.

Promoting circular solutions: Optimising production processes and following circular economy principles in material selection and product life cycle management to minimise waste.

Developing a modular production environment: Creating a flexible and resource-efficient production environment that enables testing of new technologies, materials and production methods. This environment will be used and tested in collaboration with companies.

Business development and testing: Develop and test new business models that support sustainable growth and the circular economy, with a focus on service-based models such as product rental and update services.

Cooperation and skills development: Strengthen cooperation between Muotoilukeskus Muova/VAMK, Novia and Centria to combine their expertise in design, business development and production technologies.

The project aims to support the innovation and competitiveness of small and medium-sized enterprises and sustainable production, creating a basis for new circular business models and products.
