DeCiDe - Developing Circular Design

Europeiska regionala utvecklingsfonden ERUF Osterbottens forbund

Period: 15.2.2022 - 29.1.2024

Content: The project is funded by the REACT-EU instrument as part of the European Union's response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

DeCiDe (Developing Circular Design) is based on three needs; 1) In the recovery from the pandemic, a key issue is to develop the region's export industry sustainably, 2) Both customers, upcoming legislation and EU directives
demand a change in the entire value chain, and 3) To see the entire life cycle of a product where design refers to a totality
consisting of material, function and aesthetics provides the method for the region's transition.

The objectives of the project are to strengthen the companies' sustainable production, to strengthen their ability to develop products and services sustainably with a holistic approach to design as a basis, and to create a digital guide for this that can be freely used after the project. The project wants to shift the focus in the value chain from waste to design and product development in order to reduce the generation of waste.

The main target group is the manufacturing industrial companies in the region and their subcontractors. The measures of the project have the following focus areas; 1) Circular design, 2) Circular business models and 3) Sustainable product development.

The project implements at least three cases for each work-package. These are then compiled into a digital guide for circular transition in manufacturing industries.

The project supports the companies as a primary target, but also helps the partners to develop their competences in sustainability and circular economy to provide training, RDI services and improved business counselling.
