Forskningsomrade Systemomstallning for att bygga resiliens

Project description: Biodiversitet i våtmarker

Information project about biodiversity

About the project

Novia University of Applied Sciences, through its Research, Development and Innovation (RDI) activities at the Raseborg campus, is carrying out a development project aimed at increasing knowledge of biodiversity in wetlands in Raseborg, Hanko and Inkoo. The project develops simple biodiversity monitoring methods and engages the public through citizen science.
Data are collected using wildlife cameras, AudioMoth acoustic recorders, environmental DNA (eDNA), and digital reporting of nature observations. The focus is on birds, mammals, bats, amphibians, vascular plants, and insects.
Communication is carried out through the project´s website, social media channels, blogs, popular science articles, and local media. The project's main outputs are a documentary film and an accessible biodiversity monitoring manual for wetlands.
The project runs from 2026 to 2028. Its results will increase understanding of the importance of wetlands as habitats, while providing knowledge to support future wetland restoration and management.
The project is implemented in collaboration with the City of Raseborg, Västankvarn Farm, Täktom Wetland, the Western Uusimaa Water and Environment Association (LUVY), the University of Turku, WWF Finland, and Tringa.

Project goal

1. To monitor a number of wetlands for biodiversity
2. To engage the public through citizen science and share information about the importance of wetlands
