Otto Långvik appointed Head of Research Services at Novia University of Applied Sciences

As of 1 August, Otto Långvik is the Head of Research Services at Novia University of Applied Sciences.

Långvik has worked at Novia since 2018, first as a Special Researcher for three years and subsequently as a Research Coordinator for five years. He completed his doctoral degree in organic chemistry at Åbo Akademi University in 2015 and has an extensive research background, which he sees as a clear strength in his new role.

He emphasizes that his experience from the research world provides both an understanding of the processes involved and an established network.

“It is a major advantage to know how research works in practice. It helps both in strategic work and in our interactions with project leaders and collaborative partners,” says Långvik.

The Head of Research Services is a member of Novia’s management team.

RDI activities are growing and quality must be maintained

Novia’s Research, Development and Innovation (RDI) activities have grown significantly in recent years. Långvik highlights that this growth has taken place while maintaining a high level of quality.

“Our RDI activities are extensive relative to the size of Novia as an organization. It is important that we continue to focus on the quality of the research conducted at Novia,” continues Långvik.

During the past year, he has already served as Acting Head of Research Services.

Långvik points out that the objective is twofold: to continue growing while at the same time ensuring that projects remain competitive both in terms of content and quality.
“It is one thing to grow in scope and another to grow in quality. We must do both.”
RDI activities are closely linked to Novia’s strategy, in which sustainability, societal relevance and Nordic cooperation are key objectives.

We have the opportunity to make an impact and contribute to the areas that Novia has chosen to prioritize. We do this through projects that are relevant and of a high standard.

All campuses are important

“Expertise exists at all locations where Novia operates, and it is important that it does. We have employees who are passionate about their work and want to continue developing our RDI activities,” states Långvik.

Following his appointment, Långvik will be based in Turku at Biskopsgatan 8, a familiar environment for him. He wrote his doctoral dissertation there and worked in the building for twelve years. He looks forward to continuing to develop the operations and places great value on stability and continuity.

“We have built something strong. Now we will continue moving forward,” concludes Långvik.
