Novia University of Applied Sciences has now graduated its first biomedical laboratory scientists from the English-language programme Bachelor of Health Care, Biomedical Laboratory Science.

The first cohort of students was admitted to the Bachelor’s degee programme in Biomedical Laboratory Science at Novia UAS in autumn 2023. After three academic years, the first students have now completed their theses, and more are expected to graduate during autumn 2026.

Although biomedical laboratory science programmes are offered at several universities of applied sciences in Finland, Novia UAS is the only institution providing education in Swedish. Novia was also the first in Finland to offer the programme in English, aiming to reach a broader target group.

The degree programme comprises 210 ECTS credits and provides competencies for work in laboratory settings within health centres, hospitals, and private healthcare companies. The profession includes both patient-oriented work and advanced analyses across several specialised fields, such as clinical chemistry, microbiology, and genetics.

Novia UAS has extensive experience in providing education in English within the field of health care. In addition to the biomedical laboratory science programme, Novia also offers the Bachelor of Health Care, Nursing, which has attracted significant interest among applicants in Vaasa for several years.
