Renewed ISO‑9001 certificate confirms Novia’s systematic quality work
Novia University of Applied Sciences has been approved in a recertification according to the international ISO 9001 quality assurance standard. A recertification audit of the quality system was carried out in March by DNV Business Assurance. The certificate granted to the university is valid until 31 May 2029.
“One of the most central aspects of the ISO 9001 standard is that the organisation must be able to demonstrate continuous qualitative improvement in its operations. The development is evaluated annually by an external auditor. Every three years, a more extensive recertification is conducted, during which the organisation’s development is assessed by two external auditors. Demonstrating continuous improvement is a requirement for passing this comprehensive recertification,” explains Novia’s Quality Manager, Mats Lindholm.
The focus area of the 2026 recertification audit was specifically the goals, measures, management, and development of throughput in degree programmes. The purpose is to examine how Novia’s management system functions in practice, how objectives are followed up, and how quality, efficiency, and continuous improvement are ensured throughout the organisation.
The following functions and departments participated in the audit:
Novia’s management, administration, HR, ICT services, education coordination, the Department of Business Administration (including Language Services), and the Department of Health and Welfare.
“Quality work is important for effectively creating added value for our students and partners, and for systematising our operations overall. The audit confirms that quality assurance at Novia functions well and that everyone takes responsibility for quality in their work,” says President Örjan Andersson.
The quality system manual includes everything from policy to guidelines for strategic work and the setting of quality objectives for continuous improvement. It provides an overarching strategy, Novia’s sustainable impact, and defined goals for quality and sustainable development for both the university as a whole and its individual departments. A central objective is to support students in developing quality awareness.
