The Nordic Ecological Standard was introduced by the Swedish Film Institute on 1 March 2026 and will, from 2027, also be required by the Finnish Film Foundation. In the future, it will be implemented by an increasing number of funding bodies across the Nordic countries. Against this backdrop, Kvarken Film Hub offers a training programme for those who want to strengthen their expertise – both to be able to meet the new requirements in their own productions and to work as an environmental consultant or environmental coordinator on external projects.

As demands from funders and commissioners increase, so does the need for professional roles that can lead and coordinate environmental work in film productions. To strengthen this competence in northern Sweden and Finland, Kvarken Film Hub is organizing training days in sustainable film production in Umeå, led by producer and sustainability advisor Ronny Fritsche. The training is aimed at practitioners within film and television, with varying levels of experience, who wish to develop sustainability practices in their own projects or work externally with environmental management.

  • Basic knowledge of sustainable development and the environmental impact of the film and TV industry
  • Environmental standards and requirements from financiers and commissioning bodies

  • For those with limited industry experience: You can take on the role of Environmental Coordinator, where – under the guidance of an Environmental Consultant – you are responsible for coordinating and implementing environmental measures within a production. In general you will be able to work more confidently with sustainability issues in smaller projects, either your own or others’.
  • For those with extensive experience in film production and production management: You qualify for the role of Environmental Consultant, taking overarching leadership and strategic responsibility for a production’s environmental work from planning through follow-up.
