Turku as a place of study
Turku is a lively student city with a strong student life and most things within convenient reach. There are approximately 40,000 higher education students here and a wide range of culture, services and leisure activities.
The River Aura flows through the city centre and gives Turku its own rhythm. Along the river there are plenty of places to meet, take a walk or simply sit down for a while and enjoy the atmosphere.
Turku is also a multicultural city. The residents represent over 130 nationalities, and more than 100 different languages are spoken as mother tongues – something that contributes to an open and international atmosphere.

In autumn 2026, Novia’s programmes in bioeconomy (Agrologist and Forestry Engineer) will start for new students in Turku. At the same time, Novia will move its operations in Turku within business administration as well as health and welfare to the new campus.

Housing
The student accommodation situation in Turku is good. The Student Village Foundation in Turku (TYS) and the Student Union provide well-equipped student accommodation around the city at an affordable price. The private housing market can also be a good option for students in Turku where through the internet and newspaper ads you have opportunities to find good accommodation at a good price. In Turku there are also plenty of student housing and housing on the free market, and there are also many students who rent these.
Turku Campus
Novia has a vibrant campus in Turku with activities in health and welfare, business administration and bioeconomy. Approximately 1,000 students study at the campus, in a city that in total has around 40,000 higher education students.
Practical learning in modern environments
In order to provide students with strong professional competence, Novia combines theory and practice in suitable learning environments.
Novia offers the Competence Lab, which consists of three high-technology operational environments: a clinical training centre for healthcare work, a training centre for social client work, and a modifiable simulation environment. State-of-the-art accounting and marketing laboratories are also available to students.
Within bioeconomy, theoretical studies are combined with practical elements, such as exercises in fields and terrain, farm-based studies and practical training. This gives students the opportunity to apply their knowledge in real environments and work-related contexts.
The learning environments are equipped with interactive boards and group rooms that support collaboration and active learning.
Central location and close cooperatio
Novia’s campus in the city centre of Turku is located close to the city’s other higher education institutions, which facilitates cooperation regarding services and support for students as well as joint activities.
Aboa Mare in Turku
The maritime programmes are situated at Juhana Herttuan puistokatu 21 at the harbour. About 300 of Novia's students study at Aboa Mare, on Juhana Herttuan puistokatu. The complex includes several commando bridge simulators and a real star sky. Seafearing education is offered on an upper secondary level and on a Bachelor's and Master's level, further education students also use the same facilities.
