Invasive alien species are species that were introduced to the biotopes and habitats with humans help or by using consequences of humans activities. Those species are destroyed biotopes diversity, led to soil erosions, species extinction, compete with native species for resources and, due to their more competitive nature, change natural landscapes beyond recognition. In addition to this, invasive species bring negative economical effects. Significant financial and human resources are spent on combating them, and chemicals are purchased and used. Restoration of damaged coastlines, destroyed or damaged engineering structures leads to significant financial losses for local budgets and communities.

In this project we will focus on those species:

Those four are widely spread in the Uusimaa region in Finland, but they are not the only ones.  Our project is also taking into account a few different species that are also be present in the region:

- Giant hogweeds

- Japanese knotweed

- Bohemian knotweed

- Yellow skunk cabbage
