Each university of applied sciences decides on a discretionary applicant's possibility to apply. At Novia UAS only Maritime Management, Captain and Nursing uses discretionary admission in 2019. The specific requirements for discretionary applicants for these programmes are described below.
Anyone applying through discretionary admission is required to submit copies of the certificates that he or she wishes to invoke to the admissions services of each university of applied sciences to which he or she is applying. The copies must arrive at the admissions services according to the deadlines for submitting appendices, no later than 30 January 2019 at 3 pm Finnish time.
Discretionary applicants are included in the student selection process in the same way as other applicants . Discretion only concerns an applicant's eligibility to apply, see Section 1.4 in the Recommendation for Admissions Criteria.
Requirements for discretionary admission
Novia UAS uses discretionary admission in joint application round 2018 only for the degree programmes: Maritime Management, Captain and Nursing.
An applicant can be considered eligible for the entrance examination although he/she does not meet the general admission criteria. Each case is evaluated individually.
Discretion may be considered in the following situations:
- An applicant outside EU region graduates later than application period closes but 8 July 2019 at the latest.
- An applicant has minor inadequacies in his/her senior secondary school certificate.
- An applicant has completed a Bachelor degree and does not hold a senior secondary school certificate (i.e. previous study right also granted through discretionary admission).
'Testimonials', 'Statements of Results', 'Examination Results', 'Transcript of Records' or 'Result Slips' can be considered valid only if they are sent to Novia UAS by official national or regional body.
Notice that separate attachments should be sent to every application preference if you are applying via discretionary application to other Universities of Applied Sciences.
