INTEGRATED NUTRIENT MANAGEMENT AND SOIL HEALTH:
Welcome to a field event with plant and soil health educator
JOEL WILLIAMS
We welcome Joel Williams (CAN) from Integrated Soils to Finland!
Joel Williams works as an independent trainer and consultant focusing on promoting plant and soil health. He has worked extensively in Australia, Europe and Canada, where he currently lives. Joel's interests are in soil health, plant nutrients and the plant and soil microbiome - and how these support the development of sustainable production systems. He holds a Bachelor of Agricultural Science degree specialising in plant and soil dynamics and a Master of Food Policy degree examining the motivations for and barriers to the adoption of mixed farming. Joel is passionate about combining, teaching and sharing scientific and practical knowledge and is a popular speaker in the international agricultural community. Learn more about Joel on his website!
During the day Joel Williams will give an introduction to:
- Plant nutrition and foliar fertilisation - exploring effective strategies to maximise plant nutrition through targeted foliar fertilisation. How can we optimise nutrients, improve nitrogen management and through monitoring follow up and fine tune nutrient application.
- Seed treatments, biofertilisers and biostimulants - insights on how to switch from conventional seed treatments to biological alternatives. The usefulness of compost extracts and fermented biofertilisers to prepare seeds for growth and resilience. Guidance on how to support growth from the beginning and during the season.
- Crop diversity - catch crops, intercrops, companion crops. Benefits of diversity mixes and the potential for different crops in regenerative systems.
- Livestock integration - insights into how livestock integration can reduce risks, build organic matter and improve overall farm resilience.
- Crop protection and input reduction - how to utilise biological and nutritional strategies to improve plant resistance to pests and diseases.
