The Institute for Maritime Software Technology (MAST! Institute) is a research collaboration platform between Åbo Akademi University and Novia University of Applied Sciences focusing on maritime digitalization and smart shipping research and development. MAST! Institute was founded in 2018 and has arranged maritime simulator demos, workshops, webinars, events, internships, consultation and a seminar. MAST! Institute has brought together the knowledge of businesses and maritime technology research projects in interdisciplinary way.
Åbo Akademi University's Department of Information technology has state-of-art expertise and competence in embedded systems and maritime digitalization. Their FNT sensor vessel "ÅBOAT" works as a research and test platform in development of remote control, collision avoidance and situational awareness solutions.
Novia University of Applied Science has a long history in maritime expertise and training bachelor and master level maritime professionals. With the knowledge of Novia, the development of maritime digitalization solutions is faster and accurate. Novia also provides crucial maritime data for autonomous shipping research.
Aboa Mare Maritime Academy is a well known training center for maritime professionals. Aboa Mare has a simulator center with several different maritime training simulators. Aboa Mare and Novia share same premises in Turku.
