Welcome to study Master of Maritime Management / Engineering (Seafaring), part-time studies at Novia University of Applied Sciences!

Study Start

The academic year begins on 8 September 2022 (Week 36) at the Aboa Mare Campus, Juhana Herttuan Puistokatu 21, Turku, Finland. Detailed information for the course schedule will follow so please check this site again closer to the date.

We will begin with an introduction to Master’s degree studies by providing useful information concerning your studies, practicing the e-learning platform and getting acquainted with research and research methods. Due to the current corona pandemic, physical attendance may be restricted and closer instructions including a link to an online meeting will be provided later. Otherwise we carry forward the studies in a hybrid format.

You must present your original certificates, which you used in your application 2022, to the Student Services Office. Please also bring your passport or another form of official ID with you. According to the regulations by the Admissions Office, this is mandatory. If you do not attend the first session in person, please make an appointment with the Student Services Officer to present your certificates at another time during the studies.

More detailed information is provided on the Peppi system. During the study kick-off, we will go through that, along with an introduction to the Admissions Office, Student Advisory, Library Services, and R&D Team. The studies are arranged at site and online with the lecture materials, as well as the assignments to be completed, in the system Moodle. We use Teams, that is students and teachers, for communication in the group. For study administrative things the Peppi system is used. The lectures that take place on campus will be recorded. It would be good for you during the studies to attend some sessions in person. It can namely also be good to meet and network with your peers and thesis supervisor. But we, in consideration of these potential exceptions, may with confidence say this is an online program. We will together make sure the lectures are arranged in a safe manner. Due to the nature of the study program being online and part-time (2 years) it has been difficult, and in some cases even impossible, for non-EU students to get a residence permit from Migri. Unfortunately, these immigration issues are outside the Novia UAS scope of impact and responsibility.


Each course has four contact days starting at 9am and ending at 4pm (EEST). Lunch is at 12pm and there will also be some coffee breaks. The afternoons usually include a thesis seminars and time for group work.

We start with the course:  Studying in the Master’s Program (1 cr) and Research and Research Methods (4 cr). Note, We start the studies on 8 September 2022 so, if you have been accepted to study in this programme, please book the following dates into your diary now: 8 & 9 September 2022.


  • Studying in the Master’s Program (1 cr) and Research and Research Methods (4 cr) September 8-9, October 20-21
  • Financial Management and Maritime Business (5 cr) November 3-4, February 2-3 (feb very preliminary)
  • Management Accounting and Maritime Business (5 cr) December 15-16, January 12-13 (very prelinminary)
  • Human resources management in maritime business (5 cr) Autumn study year 2
  • The Shipping Business (5 cr) September 22-23, November 10-11
  • Supply Chain Management (5cr) Autumn study year 2
  • Thesis seminars starting early winter, approx once a month. Usually half a day long.

The Thesis (30 cr) is pursued in three modules, Thesis 1, Thesis 2 and Thesis 3. We start with the Research plan (Thesis 1) during winter-spring 2023. The modules 2 and 3 we work with during study year 2, thus planned study performance is 30 cr per study year.
