Maritime Management

Bachelor of Marine Technology, 270 credits, 4,5 years

Choose a career that will take you far! The maritime field is full of opportunities and you can work on different types of vessels and in all parts of the world. The industry also offers interesting work environments at shore.

Content of studies

The training is closely related to practice, and simulators, workshops, rescue boats and training vessels form a significant part of the study environment. The international character of the field is emphasized in the training.

A significant part of the programme is realized as onboard training. The onboard training is mostly carried out on Finnish ships, but ships under other flags are also used for the onboard studies. Finnish master mariners are well respected on the international market and graduates are hired globally.

The Degree Programme in Maritime Management in Turku is a 4.5-year programme leading to the Master Mariner Degree. Additional documented work experience as a ship officer on merchant vessels in international traffic is required to receive a Master Mariner Certificate of Competency.

The students can apply for a Watchkeeping Officer's Certificate of Competency when part of the studies is successfully completed. This normally takes about three years. Certificates of competency are issued by the Finnish Maritime Administration or corresponding national maritime bodies.
