Entrance Requirements

The Degree Programme in Maritime Management follows the general admission criteria in Finland. For more information about eligibility please see the page about application.

Entrance Examination

All eligible applicants will receive invitations to the entrance examination. The entrance examination is compulsory and is held 29 April 2011 in Turku, Finland. Results from other entrance examinations are not accepted. The entrance examination is divided into three parts: an English language test (reading comprehension), a technical test (mathematics, senior secondary school level) and a written interview. A non-programmable calculator is allowed during the entrance exam. The Degree Programme in Maritime Management will also arrange entrance examinations abroad in cooperation with the Finnish Network for International Programmes (FINNIPS). Medical certificate for seafarers

An admitted student must provide a health certificate issued by a physician certified by the Finnish Maritime Administration or by a corresponding national maritime body to Novia University of Applied Sciences, Malminkatu 5, 20100 Turku, at the latest 29 August 2011. 

The health certificate must be recent, no older than three months. By calling +358 2 432 3121 you can get a list of seafarers' health stations in Finland. The first health certificate can be obtained only in Helsinki or Turku. After obatining the first certificate, you can renew the seafarers health certificate at any health station in Finland that provides health care for seafarers.

Novia UAS can cancel a study place if the health certificate is not submitted within the time limit or if the certificate shows that applicant is not suitable for a career at sea. Please consider that applicants that suffer from colorblindness are not considered suitable for pursuing a career at sea.
