Climate and Greenhouse Gas Circulation Dynamics on a Local Level - Case Raseborg

Mitigation of climate change through reducuction of greenhouse gas emissions has become everyday life even on a local level. We present two different on-going sub-projects in Aronia that address climate issues on a local level. The first sub-project we present is development of calculation methods for quantifying greenhouse gas sinks on a local level. The model being developed will be a tool for municipalities to calculate how the greenhouse gas sinks function in their area, and it can even be used as an instrument in planning land use.
The second sub-project aims to develop an energy and climate programme for the municipality of Raasepori. The project is a continuation of a finished project in which a survey of greenhouse gas emissions was carried out on a local level in southwestern Finland in 2009. This is approximately the same area where the present projects operate. The goal of the energy and climate programme is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by improving energy efficiency in all activity areas of municipality of Raasepori. We present the action plans for the municipality departments in which the national climate goals will be achieved. Finland has set a national goal to reduce emissions by 20% by 2020. In practice, goals are met by the municipalities.
